Leatherette fabric is a form of artificial leather or better-known faux leather and, unlike leather, does not fade when exposed to sunlight over an extended period. Leatherette is usually made by covering a fabric base with plastic.  The base of leatherette fabric can be made of synthetic or natural fibres which is then covered with a soft PVC layer. Faux leather fabric like leatherette fabric would generally be used in substitute of leather in upholstery, fashion and fabrics and other uses where leather like finishes is desired.  It may be used in replacement for ethical reasons, cost or that it is better suited than leather fabric.
